The essential insights of the confidence artist are that credentials are very, very easily forged and that the actual abilities and qualities these credentials supposedly certify are quite hard to detect -- in part because many of the authentically credentialed lack them
.@mer__edith tells @cpassariello, “VC's require hype to get a return on investment because they need an IPO or an acquisition … You don't get rich by the technology working, you get rich by people believing it works long enough that one of those two things gets you some money."
@iCyclone It doesn't look like there were many recon flights into the storm. I think the first one was only 24 hours prior to landfall, likely because the models led them to believe this storm wasn't going to amount to much. Would the added data have made a difference in the models?
I always notice in my travels that people who work in stores and on various labor crews get along with one another fairly easily across so-called "identity" lines. The idea that there is ceaseless conflict seems to come from the "top,"
for the most part.
It's long past time for the news media to STOP CALLING union leaders "bosses"
Shawn Fain is not a union boss. He's doing what UAW members want. 97% of auto workers voted to authorize a strike. He's been UAW president for six months & won office in a democratic election.
Congressional leaders don’t want you—or those elected to represent you—to know what’s in the spending bills. That’s why they always start appropriations so late in the year, pushing up against the deadline. They’re trying to create a panic so no one scrutinizes the final product.
@the_transit_guy The number of people flying between CLT and RDU with no connecting flight is a trackable number. The DOT has this data available and you can find the exact number. I don't know where to look, but I know @crankyflier is always using it for his posts.
