Joseph Smith was tarred and feathered for inappropriate behavior towards a minor. He was a criminal who was arrested forty times. He bribed judges and intimidated government officials. He practiced folk magic and divination. He sacrificed dogs. He created the Book of Mormon as a hoax with the help of his friends and family. He defrauded many people out of their life savings with illegal banking practices. He fled from justice out of New York, Ohio, and Missouri.

He was a narcissist who lied incessantly. He committed adultery too many times to count. He was arrested for treason, smuggled a pepperbox pistol into Carthage Jail, and subsequently died rather unceremoniously in a shootout. He was most definitely a conman and reaped what he sowed in life.
