Here's the thing. Free will is a motherfucker. You can do whatever you want at least once. Relative to your Rights and the Military, though...

For better or worse, the Supreme Court has (on multiple occasions) determined that your rights are applied to you differently in the Military. They found in Parker v. Levy (1974) that the Military was a "distinct society" from that of civilians. They found that the “fundamental necessity for obedience” and discipline justifies greater restrictions on speech than in civilian life.

They more or less found the same in Greer v. Spock (1976), and even found that religious freedoms are applied differently in the Military in Goldman v. Weinberger (1986).

Sometimes, regardless, a court's findings aren't things you have to agree with. A court's finding isn't necessarily 'just' or universally 'good'. Nor do I think you'd necessarily need to COMPLY with some things that a court finds (free will being what it is). This one I do agree with, though.

Simply, if you put the uniform on you surrender some of those things voluntarily (this is an important word). It's necessary for the US Military to remain (as a body) impartial in politics. You set aside yourself as an individual and become a part of the body. It's called 'selfless service' for a reason.

If you want to retain those things, and don't like the idea of selfless service, take the uniform off. It's not Burger King. You don't get to have it your way.

-Police officers didn't attempt to defuse the situation despite being in close proximity as it was happening.

-It wasn't a "group of men fighting" it's one young man being ganged up on.

-Female cop didn't identify herself and her first action was to run up and shove him into a wall before he was even capable of looking at her.

-As the white guy was recovering, he was suckerpunched to the back of the head less than a second earlier, so he instinctively went to punch the one shoving him thinking he was still actively being attacked.

-After the man realized his mistake, he complied peacefully and wanted to explain the situation while the officers continued to antagonize him.

-Female cops arrest only him, letting the assailants walk away freely.

You really can't even blame the brits for preferring vigilante justice, these cops are malicious liars who just want to powertrip and endanger people.
