BIGGER THAN THE GAME ❤️

For decades, Dwight “Dewey” Paterson was a staple in the Cole Harbour hockey community. From his early days as a player and referee to his years behind the bench as a coach, he was always willing to give back to the game he loved.

Even after his recent pancreatic cancer diagnosis, his dedication to hockey and the U13 AAA team in Cole Harbour where he served as an assistant coach never wavered — coaching as long as his health allowed.

In November, his team played a special game against East Hants in support of pancreatic cancer research. Both teams rallied around Dwight and the cause. In all, more than $10,000 was raised to support the research efforts.

On Monday, Dwight passed away after a courageous battle.

Last night, his Cole Harbour team and the East Hants squad met again, and in a moment that was bigger than the game, the East Hants players and staff personally shared their condolences with Dewey’s entire team as the clock ticked down.

It was a special moment that highlighted the power of the game and Dwight’s impact on it.

We would like to extend our sincere condolences to Dwight Paterson's family, his U13 AAA team, and all of his friends in Cole Harbour.
