Widespread public backlash occurred after Magnolia Tribune broke the news that the MS Department of Public Safety had requested the approval of a contract that would have permitted use of AI cameras to detect traffic violations.

Now, DPS Commissioner Sean Tindell says the agency will not execute the contract and never intended to use the technology to issue citations. A separate representative of DPS told the ITS Board last Thursday that the technology would be used to help officers issue traffic tickets.

Police in Northern Ireland say they have arrested a Sudanese man in his 30s for a brutal stabbing attack in Belfast late Monday night. Graphic video of the incident shows a man straddling another man lying in a street and slashing him several times in the head and neck with a knife. Eventually, a group of bystanders intervenes, hitting the attacker with a stick until police arrive.

The victim survived and is in the hospital with severe injuries, authorities say.
