You can absolutely run walk forward optimization with LLMs like Claude without training from scratch or huge costs. Simply prompt the model with historical data up to a cutoff point, generate signals for the next unseen window, record results, then slide the window forward and repeat. This keeps everything strictly out of sample and real time. Local open source models make it even cheaper and faster for thousands of iterations. No look ahead bias if you stay disciplined with the rolling windows. This blends LLM reasoning with proven quant validation and works great for live paper trading too.
