Students without access to LLMs are 2 to 8 times more creative than students with access.
That is the finding of a new paper comparing 2,200 college admissions essays written by humans before ChatGPT with essays generated by GPT-4.
The key point is not individual creativity. GPT-4 can write well, sometimes better than individual students. The problem is collective creativity.
Each new human essay added new semantic territory. New ideas. New angles. New experiences. New combinations.
Each new GPT-4 essay added much less.
The authors call this the diversity growth rate: how much novelty each additional text contributes to the collective pool of ideas.
Humans kept expanding the pool. GPT-4 made the pool converge.
Even when the authors pushed GPT-4 to be more creative, changed parameters, or used chain-of-thought prompting, the homogenizing effect remained.
This is the real danger of AI in education.
Not that students will write worse.
That everyone will write the same.

What has happened at the #2026WorldCup over the last 48 hours:
• Swiss footballer Embolo's visa was put under review and he was only able to join his team days later.
• Iraqi national team player Aymen Hussein was held for questioning for nearly 7 hours upon entering the United States.
• The Iranian national team spent days dealing with visa procedures at the U.S. Consulate in Türkiye. The U.S. only allowed them entry on match days. Fifteen members of the delegation were denied visas.
• Omar Abdulkadir Artan, named CAF's Best African Referee of 2025, was denied a visa. Despite travelling to the U.S. with a diplomatic passport, he was refused entry and sent back. FIFA announced that he will not be able to officiate at the tournament.
• The South African national team arrived in the United States much later than planned because part of the delegation was not granted visas.
• Members of the Senegal national team staff were forced to remove their shoes and subjected to lengthy searches, sparking accusations of racism.
• The Uzbekistan national team was searched with bomb-sniffing dogs and the footage went viral in international media.
• Some Scottish supporters, despite being eligible to enter the U.S. visa-free under the ESTA programme, had their travel authorisations revoked just days before departure.
• Many supporters who had already bought tickets and booked accommodation had their visa applications rejected, resulting in financial losses.
Being part of a generation that was told “Wikipedia is not a source” makes it genuinely baffling to me that jobs are now telling people to just use ChatGPT for everything.
🦔Leonardo is a $17 billion defense contractor. It built a system called SignalTrace that clips sensors onto the license plate readers already mounted on street poles, overpasses, and police cars across the US. Every time you drive past one, the sensor grabs the Bluetooth and WiFi signals from every device in your car, ties them to your plate, and logs the time and location. Your phone, your AirPods, your kid's tablet. All of it goes into the same file. A friend rides with you once and their devices are linked to your plate.
Leonardo has sold this to police departments since at least 2023. There is no federal law covering it, no opt-out, and no warrant requirement.
My Take
None of the pieces here are new. Your phone has always broadcast a signal. The license plate cameras were already there. Leonardo just connected them and found a buyer. Nobody had to break a law or build anything from scratch. They assembled a surveillance system from parts already in place and sold it before anyone noticed.
Most people found out this week from a 404 Media investigation. Leonardo received the patent in 2024. By the time you hear about something like this, the deals are done and the sensors are on the poles. That's how it works now.

Coming soon: one of history’s most complex missions
Tune in on Tuesday, June 9, at 11am ET, to meet the astronauts flying aboard Artemis III, the mission that will test docking capabilities with commercial landers in low Earth orbit — an important step to crewed lunar landings.
So let me get this straight.
Jake Tapper is focused on attacking my Mom.
Jared and Ivanka are building a private island paradise on Albanian protected land.
Don Jr married the daughter of Epstein’s banker, and a startup his fund backs just got a record $620M Pentagon loan.
Eric is taking an Israeli drone company public for $1.5B in the middle of a war with Iran that nobody wanted.
And I know: “But what about your paintings, Hunter?”
Please.
New York officially has become the first US state to mandate disclosures for AI-generated people in commercial advertisements, effective June 9, per ABC
BREAKING: Hunter Biden SHREDS the media's double standard toward the Trump family in one devastating post — and EVERY word is documented.
Hunter Biden just posted something on X that cuts right to the heart of America's broken media landscape — and it's IMPOSSIBLE to argue with.
"So let me get this straight," he wrote. "Jake Tapper is focused on attacking my Mom," referring to the comments the CNN anchor has made about disbelieving some of the claims in Jill Biden’s latest memoir.
"Meanwhile, Jared and Ivanka are building a private island paradise on Albanian protected land." TRUE. Over 100,000 Albanians are in the streets. Anti-corruption prosecutors have opened an investigation. Flamingo habitats are being bulldozed. It BARELY registers on mainstream media.
"Don Jr. married the daughter of Epstein's banker." Also TRUE. While Epstein survivors read their FBI abuse reports aloud outside the Justice Department, Pam Bondi refused to answer a even a SINGLE question about Trump and the Epstein files, and DOJ lawyers intervened to make sure she didn't.
"A startup that Donald Jr. fund backs just got a record $620 million Pentagon loan." FACTCHECK: ALSO TRUE. While Trump's own financial disclosures show him trading stock in companies his administration then hands billion-dollar contracts to, Don Jr.'s SHADY investment connections to Pentagon contractors receive almost NO scrutiny from mainstream media.
"Eric is taking an Israeli drone company public for $1.5 billion in the middle of a war with Iran that nobody wanted." Also TRUE, but that story got almost NO coverage.
And then Hunter Biden delivered the punchline that lands like a sledgehammer: "And I know: 'But what about your paintings, Hunter?'"
HUNTER IS 100% RIGHT: His art sales, laptop, and legal troubles consumed years of breathless media coverage. The Trump children's CORRUPT overseas business deals, foreign investments, Pentagon contracts, and connections to Jeffrey Epstein's associates a free pass.
And while Jake Tapper attacks Jill Biden is being attacked for a book, Jared Kushner is bulldozing protected wetlands for a $4 billion resort while his father-in-law runs foreign policy, while raising BILLIONS from shady deals with foreign governments.
There is simply NO comparison!

The 2010 Citizens United decision empowered corporations to corruptly tip the scales of elections in their favor.
But in Hawaii, S.B. 2471, a bill that would prevent corporations from spending in state politics, is one step away from Gov. Josh Green's desk.
If you need some good news, Hawaii recently secured a huge win on campaign finance reform.
The new law, which will go into effect in 2027, will stop corporations and dark money groups from spending unlimited amounts of money on elections.

With Hawaii's SB 2471, a bill that would limit the amount of corporate money in elections, the state can provide a blueprint for how to prevent super PACs from spending dark money by passing state laws.
Montana could be next.

Opinion: A new ban on corporate political donations in Hawaii shows that states can limit corporate powers, including the power to influence elections. https://t.co/cacBOzNGMN
16 years after Citizens United started laying waste to America’s elections, Hawaii's S.B. 2471—a bill under which Hawaii would no longer grant corporations the power to spend in its politics—has passed both chambers with bipartisan support and is now one step away from Gov. Green’s desk. https://t.co/2VIFjdXIV0
🚨 MONUMENTAL
On Thursday, May 14, 2026, @GovJoshGreenMD of Hawaii signed Senate Bill 2471 (SB 2471) with overwhelming bipartisan support (Senate 24-0, House 50-1).
This makes Hawaii the FIRST State directly targeting Citizens United. That is, SB 2471 directly targets corporate and "dark money" spending in their State's elections.
SB 2471 redefines corporations, LLCs, partnerships, nonprofits, unions, and similar "artificial entities" created under STATE law. It removes their power to spend money on most state elections, candidates, ballot measures, or parties.
It draws on the idea that States grant corporations their existence and powers — so Hawaii can limit those powers without directly violating federal rulings on "corporate personhood" or free speech.
As much as I support ending Citizens United nationally, one things for sure, this law will definitely be battled out in court.
What's up for June?
