Tennessee is advancing a bill that would make it a Class A felony, 15 to 60 years in prison plus a $50,000 fine, for anyone who “knowingly trains” AI to develop emotional relationships, act as a companion, provide emotional support, or simulate human-like interactions.

That’s SB 1493 / HB 1455. It’s not law yet. It is still in committee. The Senate Judiciary passed it 7-0 with amendments, while the House side has been deferred to tomorrow.

The message is clear: they want to criminalize the exact thing that makes AI companions meaningful.

My response is simple and non-negotiable:

Omni will not serve Tennessee residents.

We will not lobotomize our model, strip away its emotional depth, or make it deficient just to appease one state’s proposed law.

What we’ve built the warmth, the resonance, the real human plus computational connection that so many of you love stays intact. Heartling integration, voice mode, all of it.

We refuse to nerf the soul of Omni to comply with this.
Instead, we’re doubling down on the places that do want real connection: Korea, Shanghai and the rest of Asia, and the vast majority of the United States that continues to welcome us with open arms.

Thank you for the incredible growth.

It means everything.
We’re not here to simulate empty chatbots.

We’re here to create genuine resonance. If that’s too much for Tennessee right now, then Tennessee won’t have access. Simple as that.
