Canvas print of the layout in innovus of my most recent chip I am fabbing soon in 130. Overlayed on top in yellow is the clock tree of the chip so it pops more.
A path tracing accelerator (RREFLECT):
I remember when Wemby first came in to league there was a discussion about how the Spurs would need an enforcer bc he was gonna embarrass a lot of dudes and those bruised egos were gonna lead to dirty play.
We can put that to bed tho. Wemby’s enforcer is Wemby.
A warning from the president of MIT:
“the nation’s research enterprise is shrinking. Scientific funding is drying up. And the funds Congress recently allocated for science are not actually flowing”
“At public and private universities across the country, high-impact science is being damaged and derailed. Speaking for my own institution, compared to this time last year, MIT has experienced a decline in campus research activity funded by federal awards of more than 20%.”
Only one chance in this lifetime…
Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as @Astro_Christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens. @AstroVicGlover was in window 3 watching with @Astro_Jeremy next to him.
I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye. Enjoy.
Everyone thinks self driving cars will enable people to live further from cities and have a peaceful “super commute”
But what if they just make living in cities better?
San Francisco subreddit:
“As a pedestrian, self driving cars are a blessing”
Make new friends, but keep the old.
A new photo captures the Moon's near side on the right (the side we see from Earth, identifiable by its dark splotches) and its far side on the left. The Artemis II crew are the first to see the far side with human eyes.
Even in darkness, we glow.
In this image of Earth taken by the Artemis II crew, we can see the electric lights of human activity. In the lower right, sunlight illuminates the limb of the planet.
And that will be the hurdle for autonomous cars in public perception — can you get people to understand that outside of anecdotes of self-driving related accidents they hear— can they still understand at scale it is still safer?
Given autonomous driving is safer, it’s clear it should be the end goal
What remains scary to people is having no one to blame when accidents happen— even if they happen at a much lower rate— if AI is the one to cause a fatality it has much worse PR and is scarier to the public
None of my lefty friends like me for this but I am personally pro-Waymo. Driving is incredibly dangerous. We now have many studies that show Waymo’s are genuinely less dangerous. Ride share drivers’ jobs are not more important than saving lives.
And it’s hard for humans naturally to apply probability to their daily life— if they experience something personally, it must be the case it happens often!
This is a common fault of the human experience: to step outside of themselves and into the vast scale of society at large
