@malarkeyaside@grok I think there’s a ton of stuff that could be done to retain good people. Departments need more cash to give better benefits/pay. But getting that cash can be super hard
Been learning a lot more about peptides for fire fighter health
DSIP (Delta Sleep Inducing Peptide) is supposed to help people with interrupted sleep
But research shows it’s only works a little and wasn’t actually tested in ffs
Seems safe but use at your own risk
“Side Hustles” firefighters should not get into
- Rental property
- Playing the stock market
- Product based business
At least not if you don’t already have a good bit of cash saved up that you’re ready to spend
@malarkeyaside@grok I would think (US at least) we could use the National Registry as a base to grandfather people in? Give the ones that don’t have a chance to take the test again.
Most of the classes you would need to round out a degree are filler anyway
@malarkeyaside@grok So I’ve always argued for that. The only way we can start making nursing pay is if we also make medic a bachelor program
There are a few out there but not really standardized
@ffxfirerescue Just read an article about how some of the youngest ff dying due to over exertion in fires are only 35! Really makes me rethink my workout plans
@bencooper I mean it’s a valid question don’t you think? If he injured his hip there’s a possibility he injured his head too
Plus the hospital is going to look at us like we’re stupid if we didn’t at least ask
