Save the Date! Africa GDC Forum 2025

On March 28, 2025, @TheYouthCafe , @CAHEDKenya, @CVARwanda2016 , @afrobarometer , and @SOMWA4 , in collaboration with the @GloDemCoalition, will convene the Africa GDC Forum 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya. This pivotal gathering will tackle the urgent need for democratic resilience in addressing environmental challenges and safeguarding human rights and explore the intersection of democracy, human rights, and environmental justice.

The discussions will focus on democratic renewal, electoral integrity, anti-corruption efforts, youth political participation, and digital governance. With a World Café-style breakout session, panel discussions, and interactive workshops, participants will co-create regional strategies for strengthening democratic institutions and environmental accountability.

The Third World Forum of Intermediary Cities: A Platform for Sustainable Transformation

Intermediary cities are the unsung heroes of sustainable development—bridging rural and urban communities, fostering territorial cohesion, and championing human-scale growth. Yet, they often remain overlooked in global agendas.

Our Coalition Partner @uclg_org's Forum on Intermediary Cities, starting today, is flipping the script, offering a platform for advocacy, collaboration, and bold policy innovation. Taking place in Cuenca, Ecuador, a city renowned for its commitment to sustainability and inclusivity, this third edition promises to redefine the role of intermediary cities in:
1. Tackling the climate emergency
2. Driving ecological transformation
3. Strengthening urban-rural integration

Panel 5 of the forum, Tackling Social Justice Through Participatory Democracy, will include @AlmaCivica’s Executive Director Olga Caballero, representing the @GloDemCoalition. This panel will take place on January 24th, from 15:00 to 16:00, and will explore how participatory democracy can drive social justice and empower communities.

The World Forum of Intermediary Cities will serve as a key stepping stone towards the Fourth Financing for Development Forum and the upcoming World Summit on Social Development, critical milestones to transform global governance to meet the global goals.

With climate change disproportionately impacting the continent, discussions will focus on how democratic governance can address environmental crises while upholding human rights. Emphasis will be placed on youth leadership, with examples of young activists and organizations driving change at the grassroots level. Workshops and panels will explore innovative policy solutions and best practices, fostering collaboration across sectors and borders.
