Ezra is so perverse in this actually. At one point Coates emotionally points out how viscerally Kirk attacked various communities, including Trans folks, & says he is for talking to anyone but he’s going to be clear that Kirk was a bad guy and that he won’t legitimize abuse of his victims by eliding that fact. Ezra then argues that trans people are vulnerable bc Trump won, implying that if we had been more open to transphobes, Trump might not be president. It’s so sick. Cotes tries to point out that there are other choices Dems could’ve made that would’ve enabled them to win, for example, not running Biden. But someone like Ezra only sees Dem losses as an excuse to argue that the party should move right.
