@themofeoluwaa is pretty much the only person I greet in Japanese by default these days.
Hearing her say "Sayounara" just now made me proud of her, somehow ✨
Just finished calculating the money I’ll spend if I spend two nights in a resort in Lagos and I can assure myself and everyone else that it would be better to spend the money outside Nigeria.
Many broken marriages already had cracks that were being patched in Nigeria. The egalitarian nature of European societies only expose them.
A lot of Nigerian marriages aren't built on genuine love, MUTUAL respect, and partnerships. If your understanding of being a husband is financial provision only, in a society where your wife can earn as much as you or even more, you become worthless. If your understanding of being a wife is only to do house chores and take care of the children, your husband will seek everything else outside.
Abroad, your money + your spouse's money = household income. Bills cannot be paid by one person. Otherwise, they will burn out. And if you want a partner that will split bills with you, you have to pull your weight in home management: cooking, cleaning, etc. Both you and your wife cannot go out in the cold all day, and you come back home expecting them to go and cook for you every day. They will start to resent you after a while.
Child care is not the prerogative of one person. Both partners have to sit down to plan how children will be cared for: school drop-off and pickup, hospital appointments, extra-curricular activities, etc. It's all too overwhelming for one person to handle.
And the big elephant in the room is abuse. Whether physical, emotional, financial, or even psychological, abuse is completely frowned at in this society. If you abuse your partner and they file an official report, best believe the marriage is over. There are no in-laws that will advise them to keep enduring. There are no religious leaders to blackmail them into staying in the marriage. There is no fear of social stigma.
Until everyone understands this and stops being selfish, divorce rates will continue to increase.
Funfere’s sister (to mention but a few) knew the road to his house but they called her an apologist for not publicly condemning the things her brother did.
Give everyone the same end of the stick.
Since the day Chibby told us how many units a session of air frying costs, I have not touched my air fryer.
It’s been over a year now if I’m correct; if not more sef 💀
Spotify has been consistent with their support for Nigerian music across all levels.
It’s a genuine interest and support to see the ecosystem grow to reach its full potential.
A big shout out to Spotify for the Greasy Tunes Café.
I just watch Adekunle Gold perform with Yinka Ayefele.
My heart is full.
