For the record, and as someone who has sat through a lot of 1) arts panels and 2) tech panels, Friday’s @ArtBasel with @beeple and @eshear was one of the most insightful ever. On point.
(Admittedly, it was an unfortunate choice of seats.)
I can attest, this is exactly what it feels like.
“How do you know you’re on your path… (and) that you’re doing something really radical? Because you can’t see where you’re going… Everything you have leaned on for your identity has gone.”
-David Whyte
I enjoyed reading this because I agree that very, very, very few people working with AI are artists, and a very, very, very small percentage of what is created via AI is good art, even when it's lauded as such. But -- a great artist can and will do with *any* tool what no one else can or will think to do. And the vast potential for creative AI doesn't actually have to do with breeding brilliant artists, or even mediocre artists; it's about continuing to evolve the way we as human beings understand ourselves and each other, and connect and communicate with the people and environments around us.
