I fear, and expect, that our slow genocide will be replaced by a rapid one. This State has long prepared for our nation’s death— It has practiced it every day for years.
#EndBalochGenocide
🇵🇰PAKISTAN: Amnesty International, along with several other human rights organizations, call on Pakistani authorities to guarantee uninterrupted access to the internet and digital communication platforms for everyone across the country.
In light of the statement by caretaker interior minister @Gohar_Ejaz1 today, stating that internet disruptions and shutdowns are a possibility during the 8 February General Election, we urge @anwaar_kakar and @ECP_Pakistan to ensure people across the country have full access to the internet and social media platforms to exercise their right to freedom of expression and freely share and access information.

🇵🇰 PAKISTAN: Amnesty International condemns harassment faced by Baloch protestors in Islamabad
“The Pakistani authorities should be ashamed of the harassment meted out to the Baloch Long March protestors. This is not the end the Baloch women would have hoped for when undertaking the perilous journey with their children to demand justice for their families. The authorities have been heartlessly indifferent to the plight and demands of the peaceful protestors camped out in the severe cold for the past month,” said Carolyn Horn, Programme Director, Law and Policy at @amnesty.

We traveled 100s of KM & came to the capital of this state to protest against the #BalochGenocide, but you see the seriousness of this state. Instead of ending our genocide & HR violations, they attacked our camp at 3:15 AM, & stole our sound system.
#MarchAgainstBalochGenocide
The women-led #MarchAgainstBalochGenocide is a shining example of non-violent and progressive political mobilisation. But instead of attention, the mainstream's intelligentsia, media and political parties are treating it with the indifference they reserve for the peripheries.
Dear world!
It is a mass movement against state barbarism and Baloch genocide. 1000’s of people are on d streets. This movement is not limited to one town or district, but d people more than a 1000’s km from Turbat to Taunsa are part of it. But unfortunately, you have kept quiet.
🇵🇰 Pakistan:
Amnesty International is alarmed by several arrests and detentions of political leaders and activists in relation to the sit-in organized by traders and political parties protesting the imposition of visa and passport conditions at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The sit-in at the Chaman-Span-Boldak crossing started 27 days ago but has received little media attention despite being attended by thousands.
The arrest of the former Member of the National Assembly Ali Wazir on 14 November is the latest of several reprisals against political leaders and activists joining the sit-in. This is not the first time Wazir has been arrested on the charge of making speeches against state institutions, and Amnesty has documented his prolonged incarceration on sedition charges.
There have been multiple reports that political leaders such as Mohsin Dawar and Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch have been barred from joining the sit-in. It was also reported that prominent Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party leader Nasibullah Achakzai was briefly abducted.
Amnesty International urges the Government of Pakistan to:
- respect freedom of expression and right to protest of political leaders participating in the sit-in, and
- refrain from detaining and arresting political leaders and activists to discourage them from protesting.
Nawaz Sharif’s misogynist comments on women are nothing new for PMLN which believes that the only women deserving of respect are either those in the Sharif family or those who sit silently & nod while NS makes speeches stuck in the 90s.
Pathetic.
Pakistan is committing a crime against humanity by expelling Afghan refugees who have lived here for generations. But now this excuse is being used to target Pakistani Pashtuns as well. Shame on all the political parties who are silent and complicit in this heinous crime.
Let there be absolutely no mistake that what's happening in the wake of Afghan deportations is mass detention and deportation of legal refugees AND Pakistani Pashtuns aka racism.
People are being picked up for looking and sounding "Afghan" which is basically Pashtun.
Saudi Arabia protecting Israel doesn’t come as any surprise. Glad they are finally being open so the entire Muslim and Arab world can see how far this murderous kingdom has fallen into the abyss.
I want to personally apologize to all my Afghan friends - I am genuinely truly sorry. I wish I could have done more, something, to save you all from this.
We're trying, there are a few of us in Pakistan not blinded by hatred and racism. And we hope something good will come.
Even as we shove close to two million Afghans into the Taliban's Afghanistan, so many Pakistanis seem to be congratulating themselves on the great favour they have done Afghans all these years.
