Durgam Cheruvu | Review of Restoration Measures

The Commissioner, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, today inspected Durgam Cheruvu along with officials from CMC, HMWS&SB, Telangana Pollution Control Board, TGIIC and Irrigation & CAD to review measures for improving the lake's water quality and upkeep.

During the inspection, the Commissioner directed:

✅ Telangana PCB to collect samples from STP outlets in the TGIIC jurisdiction to verify whether the discharge is treated water or untreated sewage.
✅ TGIIC to immediately stop the inflow of untreated sewage into Durgam Cheruvu.
✅ Raheja and HMWS&SB to remove floating trash and algae from the lake.
✅ Madhapur Circle officials to clear and transport the floating debris removed from the lake by tonight.
✅ Collection of the lake entry fee through SHG members for maintenance of the lakefront until the tender process is finalised.

GHMC elections put on hold by the Telangana High Court.

HC has directed the state govt not to issue the GHMC election notification until ward boundaries are re-determined.

The order came after petitioners alleged that the recent ward delimitation violated Rule 5 of GO Ms. No. 570 (1996), which requires delimitation based on population, and also contravened Section 6 of the Telangana Municipalities Act, 2019.

The matter will be heard further, and until then, the election notification cannot be issued.

Special Enquiry Team (SET) to investigate alleged irregularities in the Dharani portal.

The probe will cover all land registrations, mutations, assigned and government lands, and other suspicious transactions since Dharani was launched on October 29, 2020.

A forensic audit has already flagged over 10,000 suspicious transactions. The SET will also examine IL&FS’ role in developing the portal, including vendor selection, system architecture and data security.

The government says action will be taken against all those found responsible, irrespective of their position.

Telangana Government has decided to allow hotels, restaurants, pubs and other commercial/private establishments screening the Argentina vs Spain final to remain open from Sunday evening until the match ends on Monday.

The match kicks off at 12:30 AM on Monday.
