@TSvigilante7@Miss_AshG Exactly! If everyone is soooo sure the alchemy is a Travis song then you have to believe that the beginning of their relationship was a tad messy. I don’t think the lyrics are as serious as people are treating it as.
@N10tional1@TTPDoftheNorth That’s not how I interpret it. I think she leaves the behaviour/past/the beginning of their relationship behind and hopes that this isn’t something they fight about later on.
@biiichuz@LaTayMexicana Okay I thought I was going insane. This reads soooo clearly like a Travis song to me. Like a “thank god it all worked out, huh” kind of way 😅
@buttflossed I am a romance reader lol 💀💀 we are not a monolith. I don’t care if there is an HEA as long as the book is well done. I enjoy it but I don’t need it.
In plebeian terms: I KNOW publishers use HEA/HFN to define commercial Romance. I am not confused about the rule. I am CRITICIZING the rule. “But that’s how publishers define it!” is not a rebuttal. That is literally the thing I disagree with. Please 😭
not being funny but i think books that are marketed written and sold as romantasy should be in the romance not the fantasy section. like obviously sometimes books by women get called that when they’re just fantasy but if it’s just romance in a fantasy setting. THATS ROMANCE
@divineauthors The argument is not that it's unoriginal to follow conventions. It's that books where the full plot is romance are being shoved into other 'genres' they do not belong to because they do not follow certain conventions. This is what is stupid and limiting.
@ShinKotori I'd even argue that these neat little boxes makes it even harder to find works that appeal to people. There's no creativity, everything is flat. Eventually you get bored and say "I like Romance but where is the Romance??" none of it sexy or romantic. It's hitting quotas.
If you want your art to be taken seriously, you can't retreat to the position of "our audience expects this genre to be like a fast food hamburger - comforting and disposable, recognizable and familiar no matter where you are" when people have certain differing opinions.
@buttflossed You keep arguing money when I’m arguing ART. Non-HEAs already sell. My point isn’t “we need more tragedy.” It’s that HEA as a genre boundary excludes romance-driven books that belong in Romance - like romantasy where fantasy is the subplot.

The actual literacy crisis might actually be thinking the Big 5 publishing strategies are the laws of literary theory. A romance does not cease to be a romance because it lacks the publishing convention of an HEA. Please break free, I beg of you!
