@GenZPastor These are all such great points and stories. I think what I struggle with is how the fight against disaffiliation took all of the energy for reform and redirected all of it towards protecting the current reality.

@UMC_CommonSense Back when I was in ministry my spouse was also UMC clergy so I was approached about signing one of these “if I wanted to continue to live together.” It was one of many signs it was time to move on.

@GenZPastor The disconnect between the expectation that I would pack up and move wherever I was told by a group that didn’t otherwise care enough to take the time to pray for me was just too much.

@GenZPastor This is one of the big reasons I ultimately left. When I went on leave I never had anyone ask how I was or how they could be praying for me. When I decided to officially leave ministry and surrendered my credentials the only response was “how soon can you hand them in?”

@GenZPastor It doesn’t matter. Unfortunately there are some on these committees who crave the power of their role and wield it destructively. By denying others they seem to validate themselves. It’s awful and never has anything to do with the candidate.

@RevSarahLocke I would also add that having been to 10+ annual conferences I’ve never not seen this be a unanimous vote. Typically it’s been a “stand and clap” kind of thing, though every AC is different and I’m not from Florida.

@RevSarahLocke @thispastorslife In the UMC they can (and likely already are) serving in churches as licensed local pastors so (thankfully, I guess?) it shouldn’t have much impact on employment other than delaying their process to full ordination.
