Next week I'll move an amendment to the Elections Bill, encouraging trials of automatic voter registration in schools, colleges and universities

@ScotNational While we are in the UK, it might be worth considering calling LVT the "Council Tax", in order to avoid Westminster putting obstacles to its introduction. ScotGov could raise a levy on the increased council revenue to fund the reduction in income tax that it could introduce.
@SaulStaniforth You mean that the English Education Secretary has announced cash for English schools to provide nursery places. There will be Barnett consequentials for NI, Wales, Scotland to spend on their priorities.
@BlackIslePMD@Innealadair Correct. Scotland would be better to have publicly owned and/or regulated electricity grids - but selling reliable and continuous power to England is just as worthwhile as selling whisky to the USA.
@BrochBairn @theAliceRoberts RC schools obviously differ in that respect, but even supposedly non-denominational schools can have a lot of religion peddled, if the HT is so inclined.
@brawday She can't be an envoy FOR the "nations and regions", unless they appointed her. She will be Downing St's envoy TO theย "nations and regions" and, perhaps, relieve Starmer from the tiresome business of actually conversing with the FMs and Mayors, after the initial meeting.
@BallotBoxScot Looking at the Preference Profile report, it seems that a higher proportion than normal cast no 2nd preference, so most of the 20% turnout were loyal party supporters?
@TomlinJeanne A fair assumption. Few understand heraldic language - even if you said "white", not "while"! (couldn't find a "sticking out tongue" emoji ๐)
Maybe just use "blue and white band"?
@GeorgeMonbiot Interesting - but why does the Guardian talk about this problem being "in Britain", when it is restricted to England & Wales? E&W are certainly "in Britain", but so is Scotland, and a London paper would never describe a particularly Scots issue in that way.
