https://t.co/zo1CmvitE1 via @YouTube
It’s 0345 local time (Clearwater Beach, FL) and I don’t have to be up for another hour for our flight.
Things I’ve noticed here in Florida:
1. Being friendly is the rule, not the exception
2. LOTS of police officers compared to WA. And I’m not just talking the beach, either.
3. Not a tent in sight
4. No graffiti, even in a working class part of downtown Tampa we went through
5. The great majority of people follow the traffic laws
6. DeSantis was loved until recently. Every local I’ve chatted with says “he flipped” after the 2022 election.
7. My gay Aunt has lived here since the 90s and never felt judged for her sexuality
8. Everybody rolls their eyes at the Scientologists (huge presence in Clearwater)
9. Dealing with hurricanes is a fact of life
10. Nobody wears a helmet on their bike or motorcycle
11. Most of the local food places are delicious
12. Food prices are noticeably cheaper at the grocery store (Publix). Especially meat!
13. People still use cash here
14. Everything is so clean and maintained; roads, sidewalks, freeways, the trails, the beaches, downtown, playgrounds, everything
15. Home prices are on a different planet lower than Seattle. $800k will buy you a house on the Tampa version of Mercer Island. $1.3M will buy you a fancy house on the water with a boat lift, on said island
I do miss home (WA) though and will be fighting like hell in 2024 to bring it back to functional. This trip was a glimpse at what we had, and could have again.
In 2016, a 26-year-old man from the U.K., named Ben Innes, was a passenger on an EgyptAir flight headed to Cairo. During the journey, Seif Eldin Mustafa, another passenger, hijacked the plane. He wore a vest that appeared to be packed with explosives and held a detonator, threatening to detonate the bomb. Mustafa demanded that the plane be rerouted to Cyprus, and the pilot, concerned for everyone's safety, complied.
Once in Cyprus, Mustafa released most of the passengers but retained three passengers and four crew members as hostages. Ben Innes was among the hostages. In a surprising turn of events, Ben approached Mustafa and asked if he could take a selfie with him. The hijacker, seemingly puzzled, allowed the photo.
Later, it was revealed that the bomb was a fake. Mustafa was apprehended, and the hostages were released. Ben Innes later explained that his decision to take a selfie was an attempt to stay positive, reasoning that he had nothing to lose if the bomb were real.
Seattle peeps! I have a medium sized Monstera plant to give away. She's big, healthy, and beautiful. Could use a new pot. Just too big for the space I have. Any takers?
@piersmorgan Piers an alternative post would be:
"This is horrific. Hamas needs to do more to end this War. They're monsters for putting their headquarters under Shifa hospital. And using fuel to power their tunnels not infra. They should release their hostages and surrender leadership NOW!"
Glad to hear you condemn Hamas. I have missed your prior statements and if you did I apologize.
But with all due respect: you are just an observer of this war and what you are asking to me makes no sense. Let me explain.
While your Lebanese origins allow you to have a special eye and maybe a particular sensitivity for what is happening here you are only an observer (unless I missed something). A remote observer.
I am Israeli. Here. Under rockets daily. I have family in the IDF. I have friends who lost their kid. I have friends who have their neighbors kidnapped.
Like the *enormous majority of Israelis* we are 100% behind our country and our right of self-defense.
If you ask me if I like this war: I despise it. I want it to end *today*
Back to your question.
I will NOT condemn the army of *my country* for doing the only thing that is right: making sure this never happens ever again. to return all hostages home.
I wish no civilians were hit at all. zero. none .
You know the stories. You see how Hamas is doing its best to maximize damages. You also know the data we get is deeply flawed. We fight evil. We do the job no one wants to do. Wars are ugly. Do you think Brits condemned Churchill when he bombed Dresden to get rid of the nazis? is that a question to ask?
Apologies for the long answer. But this had to be said in a crystal clear way.
Fin.
🇵🇸🇮🇱 This is a living soul pulled out of the rubble
I know a ceasefire may benefit Hamas
I know a ceasefire may prolong the war
But a ceasefire will also allow the many lives CURRENTLY UNDER THE RUBBLE a chance to be rescued!
Hamas’ days are numbered. Let’s end them with the least civilian suffering 🙏
MY FIRST EFFIGY: I own these FAR-LEFT whack jobs. Of course it's always in Capitol Hill. Living rent free in their heads.🤡
Thank you @OSiiNT for bringing this to my attention. I will for sure be at the next "mutual aid" fair.
