Juneteenth is for Black Americans, specifically Black Texans. You are welcomed to host an event but if it is not catered to Black Americans & Black American culture, don’t label it a Juneteenth event. So no, afrobeats/dancehall/etc. should not be the focus of Juneteenth events
I have been SCREAMING that we need to start our own PACS, and that we need to build, support, and elect our own candidates because after we have done all of the organizing, it will ultimately come down to the will of the elected officials.
Do yall believe me now? Are we prepared to do that, or are we just going to cry about it online?
The Assembly is chaos right now.
Democrats have limited debate on each bill to 30 seconds. Republicans note the bills they’re debating are big and deserve debate.
They also won’t recognize Assemblyman @billessayli and he’s banging on his desk as they ignore him.
A Black man describes being wrongly sentenced to life by Kamala Harris’s office. He said he felt as if she showed up at court to celebrate his conviction.

BREAKING NEWS: CJEC is proud to announce the introduction of AB-2089, which will require EVERY one of California's 482+ cities and 58 counties to collect #lineage data disaggregated specifically for descendants of persons enslaved in the U.S.! #AB2089 was authored by #CJEC advocates in collaboration with Assemblymember @ChrisHoldenNews & builds off our previous bill (now law) requiring all California state agencies to collect #lineage disaggregated data. So, the data categories cities/counties use will probably match the #lineage disaggregated categories the state uses now thanks to our previous law.
Why? Because descendants of those who survived and overcame enslavement in the U.S. are a specific group of people with a unique experience and specific needs. But, until now, California as a state, as well as our cities and counties, failed to collect any specific information about this population, leaving a data gap that hurts government and private efforts to provide much-needed targeted, tangible resources to this community. This ends now.

California must set the right example for Reparations. A 'Reparations' package w/no $$ in it is a bad example.
If it doesn't include direct monetary payments it's not Reparations. My ancestors went through too much. They deserve more & better. So do we. https://t.co/m9hLschJu5
The @CABlackCaucus just released a Reparations bill package that has NO direct monetary payments nor ANY other tangible resources for Black Americans #Freedmen. Call/email the CLBC & tell them this is not Reparations! @cjecofficial#CALeg
