One simple decision is saving me 3+ hours a day.
I stopped doom scrolling.
That doesn't mean I don't use my phone, I just set better boundaries.
Here’s exactly how I do it (#4 is key).
Without clear boundaries, you don't stand a chance.
And built-in iOS screen time won't save you:
→ You can bypass limits with one tap
→ You can edit limits at any time
Been using @unplugwithroots now for a few months.
Has changed my life.
Forces me to be much more intentional with my phone.
I'm posting this during one of my three, 10-minute sessions on social media I get each day.
Apple is not incentivized to help you stay off your phone.
They have too much skin in the game.
The key to setting boundaries — using a third party app.
Here's the screen time app I use:

Apple's screen time limits don't work.
"Ignore for today" → back to scrolling.
It's like they designed it to fail.
Here's what actually works (and how to apply it today):
Step 4: Prevent workarounds
Keep yourself from ignoring your own rules.
✅ Enable "app uninstall protection"
✅ Turn on "Monk Mode" to block impulse edits
✅ Block access to screen time settings
If you have an emergency—there's a limited number of "emergency unblocks".
