@LyleNielson I love Liam Neeson. But sometimes I wonder if he thinks he can get away with saying or doing st*pid things like this. Just like the time when he openly admitted he hunted down black people.
Congratulations to our Men's Junior Hockey Team on scripting history at the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2025! Our young and spirited team has secured India’s first-ever Bronze medal at this prestigious tournament. This incredible achievement inspires countless youngsters across the nation.
USTR Ambassador Jamieson Greer: “When it comes to trade, they have a lot of barriers, not just tariff but non-tariff barriers, etcetera. We’ve made clear to the South Africans that if they ever want to have a better tariff situation with us, they need to take care of these tariffs and non-tariff barriers.”
Just watched The Ice Road 1 & 2. Fun movies, but Liam Neeson is clearly slowing down. The acting’s not what it used to be. Maybe it’s time he did too?
Today, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) will hear oral arguments on whether President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariffs are legal.
The argument concerns the president’s ability to set tariff rates under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), despite the Constitution granting Congress exclusive power over taxation and foreign commerce.
Lower courts found Mr Trump's tariffs illegal, prompting the administration to appeal to SCOTUS.
Rolling back that authority and refunding the tariffs would be costly and create a federal revenue gap. When asked in an interview what would happen to the economy if SCOTUS invalidates the tariffs, Mr Trump replied, “I think our country will be immeasurably hurt. I think our economy will go to hell.”
In Risk Alerts of 11 August and 1 September 2025, the Centre for Risk Analysis (CRA) explains that the ANC-led coalition government and South African exporters should not expect reprieve via this route. For South African exporters, lower court rulings add to an uncertain trade environment. A reversal by SCOTUS would entrench tariffs as a permanent US trade policy fixture, locking South Africa into one of the highest global tariff brackets. South African businesses should plan for tariffs as a long-term risk rather than a temporary disruption, despite the legal challenges.
As a trade lawyer, settling in to listen to SCOTUS hear the IEEPA tariff case this morning feels like getting ready to watch one of the greatest superbowls ever.
