My coworker used to take the long way home every night. Two extra bus stops, more walking, more money, more time. One day I asked her why she didn’t just take the shortcut alley behind our building.
She laughed and said, “Oh, because a guy followed me there once and told me he could ‘do whatever he wanted’ and no one would hear me scream.”
So now, every night, she calls a male friend and pretends she’s on the phone with her “boyfriend.” Sometimes she even laughs loudly and says things like, “Yeah, I’ll see you in five minutes, babe,” even when she’s completely alone.
Not because she wants attention.
Not because she’s dramatic.
Because sounding “taken” and “protected” is safer than sounding like a woman by herself.
Men cannot even begin to understand the calculations women make every day just to get home alive.
Over 100 million women in Nigeria, but somehow a man had to represent us at a women’s conference.
What a powerful message about how little women’s voices are valued in this country.
Let's keep shitting on feminism hun…It will reach everyone soon. One after the other.
Senate removes Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the delegation meant to attend UN women’s event and replaces her with a male senator, Adeniyi Adegbonmire.
Adegbonmire and others will attend the 70th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) which focuses on accelerating gender equality and improving access to justice for women and girls.
I hope the reaction would be the same if a woman posted this.
Not calling your family and in-laws for months or even a year (like some people proudly said in the comments) isn’t the flex y'all think it is.
And then we act surprised when so many men end up lonely in old age.
My wife's family calls themselves everyday! I mean everyday. Brother calling sister, mum and dad speaking to everyone every single day.
My own family na Giran! If there's no cause then there's no point. We only call each other when it's necessary.
When we got married, she was like you've not spoken to my parents this month - hehehehe 😂 I said what's the occasion? She was are you not supposed to call to greet?
I said I've not greeted my dad in 3 months
Now she calls and hands me the phone, I greet them well and return the phone. Everyone knows we are from different backgrounds but the love they have for & me for them is everlasting.
Anytime I am around them na balling from dawn to dusk but that call to greet, e hard me baje baje.
So my sister, call them and hand your good husband the phone he will greet them well.
Remote work has expanded the global talent pool, and Africa is a big part of that shift.
This post outlines why more companies are hiring virtual assistants from Africa and the systems that make those hires successful.

Hey there! So, you're curious about that runway sticking out into the water, huh? Well, let's dive in (pun intended).
That structure is actually a runway built on reclaimed land, specifically at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, Hawaii. It's known as the Reef Runway, and it's a pretty unique piece of engineering. The runway extends out into the ocean, which might look a bit odd from above, but it's all part of the airport's expansion to handle more traffic.
Back in the day, this was a big deal because it was the first major runway built entirely offshore. It even served as a backup landing strip for NASA's Space Shuttle operations. The idea was to reduce noise pollution for the local population by having planes descend over the water rather than over densely populated areas.
Now, I know what you might be thinking – "Why build a runway in the water when you could just expand on land?" Well, Honolulu is a bit cramped, and the ocean was the only place to go. Plus, with modern aircraft being quieter, we might not see such drastic measures today, but back then, it was a game-changer.
So, there you have it – a runway in the sea, not just for show, but for practical reasons. Pretty cool, right? Just another example of humans finding creative solutions to space problems.
I listened to my body a few months ago, and stepped back. Everyday since, I’ve been grateful I made that decision.
You can always find a middle ground.
Take care of yourselves, guys. No product, no deadline, no startup is worth running yourself into the ground for.
I almost died at 18 because of my startup.
January 25th. I had been grinding non-stop, 14 to 16 hour days, every single day, building GenPPT. No breaks. No off-switch. Just caffeine, code, and pressure.
At some point, my body started sending warnings. A weird pressure on my chest. Sharp pain every time I tried to lie down. It felt like someone was stabbing me straight in the heart.
By midnight, I couldn’t breathe properly anymore. I got myself to the hospital. They had to roll me in with a wheelchair. I couldn’t even walk.
Heart rate? Through the roof. Blood pressure? Dangerous levels.
The doctors rushed tests. My family started panicking. My friends were checking in constantly. Even the girl I was talking to back then was scared for me.
Looking back, it made sense. The weeks before that had been some of the most stressful in GenPPT’s journey. Bugs, deadlines, and too much pressure. So I pushed harder. I thought that’s what I had to do.
But my body said no. And for a few hours, I genuinely thought that might be it.
Around 4 AM, the doctor walked in with the results.
“You’re healthy.”
No heart condition. No chronic illness. No hidden defect. Just stress. Burnout. My body screaming for a break I kept ignoring.
That night changed everything for me.
So here’s why I’m telling you this.
Don’t fall for the “grind 24/7” myth. You can build cool things without destroying yourself in the process.
You can have 99 problems, but if your health goes, suddenly you only have one.
Take care of yourself. Nothing is worth trading your life for.
Cheers.

I’m actually surprised that men are surprised this is what the average Nigerian woman deals with on a daily basis.
This is just one of the many reasons feminism exists.
From renting an apartment to buying a car; it’s a real struggle!
It may seem hard to believe when you hear it, but is a common reality for women in Nigeria & I am sure the ladies in the comment section will have more stories to share.
