A7: When you're feeling unsure, step into your power. #HealthRising made me realize when we ask community members to share their stories, we should step into their shoes. We are asking them to do something courageous and that takes time. #DareToBeBrave
A1: Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians) are storied people. Our mo'okū'auhau (genealogy), mele (song), oli (chant), ka'ao (legend), 'ōlelo no'eau (proverbs) have been handed down generations. Today, our people write and tell new mo'olelo (accounts) as a living culture #DareToBeBrave
@APIAHF A6: One thing I always remember is that storytelling at its core is about connection. We often don’t know who needs to hear our story even if we are scared to tell it.
@APIAHF A5: The most difficult thing about sharing my own personal story is getting out of my own way… putting my ego (or feelings of shame) aside to come to a place of speaking from my heart and truth.
HAPPENING TODAY! Storytelling is deeply embedded in our cultures. Our ancestors knew the power of storytelling and how it preserves our heritage. Join expert storytellers Thursday, May 14th @ 11am PT/ 2pm ET on Twitter and use #APAHM2020#DareToBeBrave to #TalkStory.
@APIAHF For too long, the discourse about and on #AANHPIs was told from outside our communities. These stories often did not paint a complete picture of our complexities and wholeness. As AAs and NHPIs, we need to take the driver’s seat in shaping the narratives of our people.
A1: Storytelling plays an important role in helping us to preserve and remember the histories, challenges, strengths, and resiliencies of AANHPIs, #immigrants, and people of color. #APAHM2020#DareToBeBrave.
