Out of nowhere and in an otherwise bone dry environment, we have our first named storm of the 2025 North Indian Ocean Cyclone Season.

At 85 mph (140 kph) and 976 mbar, Category 1 Cyclone Shakhti has formed amidst a spattering of desert lightning in the Arabian Sea. Though she is swirling in Oman’s direction, she is forecast to abruptly recurve just offshore of the Arabian Peninsula and evaporate harmlessly over open water.
