A lot of white people were shocked to learn about the bombing of Tulsa from HBO's "Watchmen" while most black people are familiar with the bombing of Black Wall Street.
Even historians mention these events as isolated incidents.
In 1949, four Black men in Florida were wrongfully accused of a crime they did not commit. One was hunted down and killed before he could stand trial. Two were convicted by all-white juries. The sheriff shot them on the way to their retrial, killing one. It took more than 75 years but Florida has now set aside $4 million in compensation for the descendants of the Groveland Four. This does not erase what was done. But these families have carried this burden long enough.

“White Americans will reject social programs if they think large numbers of black people will benefit from them.”
America would rather let everyone suffer than let Black people benefit, proving cruelty, not cost, is why universal healthcare never arrived.
A Black neighborhood once stood where the Pentagon sits today. It was called Queen City.
Families lived there for years before the government seized the land and cleared the community to build the Pentagon. This is the story of what happened?‼️🤔

Black people started Memorial Day.
It was originally called Decoration Day and it included a parade, but the most remarkable detail to me is that the newly freed dug up bodies of Union soldiers from mass graves, identified them and gave proper burials.
👇🏽
On Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the brave men and women in uniform who gave their lives for this country that we love. It is a debt we can never fully repay, but we must never stop trying. I’ll always be grateful to our fallen heroes and their families, whose sacrifice reminds us of what it means to live for something greater than ourselves.
Stephen Colbert was awarded the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award for his advocacy for free speech and speaking truth to power. A fitting honor for a champion of our democracy.
RETWEET to congratulate Colbert on this honor!
In an interview with The Root, Tennessee state Rep. @Justinjpearson reflected on his confrontation with state troopers last week, the dismantling of majority-Black voting districts and why he believes this moment will have consequences far beyond Tennessee.
Wesley Hunt just can’t stop embarrassing himself. This is what “weaponizing your blackness in service of white supremacy” looks like. It provides cover for devastation. It insists that the injury is imaginary. It suggests that the oppressed are experiencing no oppression. It is insidious. #attaboy
