Working with Nigel Godrich turned out to be a great career move for Paul McCartney. Finally someone that would turn round to him and say “nope. You can do much better than that” He almost fired him for it, but then realised it was exactly what he needed to hear. Macca handles the bulk of the music, playing over twenty instruments as he rises to Godrich’s challenge and delivers one of his best solo albums.

@M_BobRyan The Updike thing is really interesting to me as Wallace seemed to have Updike on the mind a good bit—lots of little nods to Updike in IJ and Broom of the System.
