At KHSC, we’re always pushing the boundaries in our Operating Rooms. And once again our surgical teams have done something incredible — combining two robotic surgeries (gallbladder + colorectal) in one single session. 🎯
Doing two robotic surgeries at one time, is a big win for patients. It means:
✅Fewer hospital visits
✅Less time under anesthesia
✅Faster recovery + less pain
"This puts us at the cutting edge," says Dr. Sunil Patel, robotic surgery lead.
And there’s more on the horizon ➡️
With a second robot coming in the future, we’ll be expanding into robotic liver, gallbladder and pancreas surgeries — making KHSC one of the first hospitals in Canada with a dedicated robotic program for these complex procedures. 🙌
"I'm incredibly proud that KHSC is leading the way," says Dr. Sean Bennett.
We’re pretty darn proud too — and with your support, we can keep innovating and leading care for patients across southeastern Ontario. ❤️

📢Breaking news at #myKHSC!
We’re thrilled to announce that we will soon become only the second hospital in Ontario to bring a portable MRI to our ICU, thanks to a generous $500,000 donation from Stephen Sorensen through the @UHKF.
The Swoop Portable MRI Imaging System is a game-changer for critically ill patients who need brain imaging. Instead of moving these vulnerable patients to a traditional MRI suite—risking discomfort and delays—the portable MRI comes to them! This means that:
✅Scans can be done at the bedside
✅Patients will experience no radiation exposure
✅Medical teams will have faster results for quicker treatment decisions
✅More time for ICU teams to focus on patient care
“Thanks to Stephen, our hospital will have cutting-edge medical technology that brings advanced diagnostics directly to patients in need,” says @KHSCceo. “This incredible gift will improve access to timely care, enhance patient comfort, and reinforces KHSC’s commitment to innovation, ensuring people in southeastern Ontario receive the best possible medical treatment.”
We’re incredibly grateful to for this visionary support in advancing medical imaging and improving patient outcomes in #ygk. #onhealth

What a year it’s been for #myKHSC! From groundbreaking moments to incredible milestones, 2024 has been one for the books.
Here are just a few memories proving why this is the place...
♥️ Our critical care team supported Canada's first heart donor after circulatory death, unlocking new possibilities for organ donation across the country.
👶👶👶 Out of nearly 2,000 babies delivered, three truly captured our hearts. "Team Triplet" brought us Lucille, Yvonne, and Eugene—our first triplets since 2020!
🦾We hit 300 robotic-assisted surgeries across various specialties and welcomed a $1.6M donation to fuel the program's growth.
🏆For the seventh year in a row, our Regional Stroke Centre is the fastest in Ontario at using endovascular treatment (EVT) to remove clots and restore blood flow to the brain.
🖕We returned to the ranks as one of Canada’s Top 40 research hospitals (Research Infosource), Canada’s best hospitals (Newsweek) and joined a new club as one of Canada’s best employers (Forbes).
⚡️We became the first team in the province to successfully pilot a minimally invasive iliac artery disease treatment, breaking down calcium buildup in arteries using high-energy shockwaves.
🖥️Finally, we launched a new electronic health system, training 7,000 people on 10,000 new devices and making a major leap toward integrated patient care across our region.
Looking forward to another year of transforming care, together. #ThisIsThePlace #healthcare #ygk #ygklove #HappyNewYear #onhealth
It’s always satisfying to end a year with a win – and we have a big one.
Earlier this month, KHSC launched an electronic health information system. The project – called “Lumeo” - involved years of preparation and spans six partner hospitals across southeastern Ontario. This is a major leap forward in achieving integrated patient care by allowing medical records to be shared securely and seamlessly between care partners.
Getting here wasn’t easy. This change has pushed us to step outside our comfort zones, adapt, and collaborate like never before. Through every challenge our staff have shown strength, creativity, teamwork, and support for each other.
At KHSC, more than 7,000 people were trained on entirely new ways of working on over 10,000 new devices – all designed to help achieve brighter outcomes in patient care. During the system’s launch, care teams were able to adapt to these new processes, while continuing to provide patient care across all our programs.
We weren’t alone, either. Our regional partners all launched Lumeo in their respective sites, while supported by a dedicated implementation team. Now, we truly are a regional hospital system aligned for our patients.
A huge thank you to each and every person at #myKHSC and beyond for their hard work, compassion, and dedication in bringing Lumeo to life.

🎉 Exciting news! For the 13th year in a row, KHSC and the KGH Research Institute (KGHRI) have been named one of Canada’s Top 40 research hospitals!
This year, we’ve climbed to 23rd place, thanks to the incredible work of our researchers, staff and partners. Together, we’re driving innovation and making discoveries that improve lives.
“This ranking recognizes the incredible work of our dedicated research teams, who continue to drive groundbreaking research and impact patient health,” says Dr. Steven Smith, President and CEO of the KGHRI. “It reflects KHSC’s role as a destination for innovation and academic excellence, strengthening our ability to attract world-class clinical research talent and secure critical funding.”

🎄✨ It’s that magical time of year! Santa & his pals from CFB Kingston brought the holiday cheer to #myKHSC in style! 🎅
Arriving via helicopter, they delivered teddy bears, plenty of high-fives & even sung carols to patients and families in the hospital.
💖 Big thanks to @CanadianForces, @RCAF_ARC, KHSC staff & volunteers, and our friends from the North Pole for making #OperationHoHoHo a success!
🎉 Exciting news for the future of medicine right here in #ygk! 🎉
Jay and Kendal Patry have made a transformative $1 million investment to establish KHSC’s first-ever Clinical Chair in Genomics – a game-changing role in an area that many call the future of healthcare.
🧬Genomics uses the power of our DNA to create personalized treatments tailored to individual patients, moving beyond the traditional "one-size-fits-all" approach to care. This cutting-edge field has already helped KHSC pioneer breakthroughs, like developing one of Ontario’s early COVID-19 genomic sequencing programs.
The inaugural Clinical Chair Dr. Prameet Sheth is a KHSC trailblazer who, along with his team, has been instrumental in advancing genomics locally. Their work will drive life-changing innovations in cancer detection, infectious disease management, and more.
“The Patrys are ahead of their time. They are investing in something that is so clearly going to make a massive difference in our future,” says Dr. Sheth.
👏 A huge thank-you to the Patry family for their generosity, vision, and commitment to advancing healthcare in Kingston and beyond. We’re transforming care together.

In observance of #NDTR2024 and #OrangeShirtDay, KHSC invited our staff to reflect on an installation at our KGH site which included the names of the children on the National Student Memorial Register, to remember the children who never returned home from residential schools.
KHSC by the numbers📈
Did you know we're the only health sciences center located between the GTA & Ottawa + serve a population of more than 500,000 people?
If you add it up, the numbers are pretty incredible.
