I had jury duty today.

The judge asked if we potential jurors could convict someone of a crime even if we don’t agree with the law.

I said, “Isn’t that jury nullification? And isn’t that our right?”

The judge kept pressing me to say I would follow laws even if I disagreed with them.

When I asked, “What law specifically?” she said any law. “Don’t you follow the laws?”

I replied, “I won’t disrespect myself by following a law I believe is wrong. Slavery was once the law. Just because something is legal doesn’t make it right.”

Needless to say, I wasn’t selected.
