Between 2013-14 and 2019-20 £3.9 billion was transferred from NHS capital spending to meet day to day running costs.
One of those factoids that continually amazes me and underlines the starvation diet of funding the NHS had pre-Covid.
@GreenManFest website told me I took too long processing payment but the money has left my bank account! No email confirmation of tickets……also has happened to other people, please reassure!!!
The problem with the NHS is very simple..there isn’t enough capacity. There aren’t enough GPs, hospital doctors, nurses, physios, OTs, lab techs, radiographers, etc…. We currently have less hospital bed capacity than Mexico. We have the second lowest in Europe.
@TYoungstein@GPDrYvetteDoc I’m a cancer doctor. We no longer have named secretaries, or even tumour site specific admin teams. We have a pool of young, poorly paid school leavers; dictated letters disappear into that pool. As a consultant I have v minimal control over the timing of even urgent letters.
Shocking report from @Billy_Palmer_ & @NuffieldTrust. 29% rise in number of #NHS staff off sick since 2019. Rates now at 5.6%, equivalent to an additional 17k staff off sick each day. 1 in 4 for reasons of mental health. https://t.co/8NByrjmGkP
.@Boneheadspage sat down with @TobyTarrant to talk about his experience with his tonsil cancer diagnosis, openly speaking about the fear, the worry and the importance of talking about cancer, as well as how Oasis track Rock ’n’ Roll Star helped throughout his treatment. #FindTheWords @macmillancancer AD
This is a stunning failure by the UK’s
public funders to continue to
support NCRI. No more joint planning, no more clinical study groups, etc. Following the demise of England cancer plan this is yet another colossal strategic failure @AggarwalOnc@WHO@UKIGlobalCancer
Without @NCRI_partners we would have less:
-Public - patient participation in trials
-Trial development workshops and groups
-Stimulus to research outside of major centres
-Studies in living with and beyond cancer
and more
-Pharma driven research for 💸💸💸
Wow. UK's National Cancer Research Institute is to closedown after more than 20 years over concerns about its funding. I am told this infrastructure is vital to cancer clinical trials across UK.
Letter today from NCRI chair:
This is a devastating step backwards for UK cancer research. @NCRI_partners offered a strategic road map for cancer research whilst optimising the UK output through never before seen levels of collaboration. A huge loss for the UK.
Britain could be saving lives on an industrial scale. Instead we’re going backwards. Me for @thetimes on why medical research matters https://t.co/Pwrlh4JOuh
