“Lawyers and attorneys are different” people are generally the three most annoying people in your 1L case after first semester trying to get away with calling themselves a student lawyer.
It’s not confusing. A lawyer, attorney, counsel etc. all mean someone licensed to practice law. All you have to do is check the definition of lawyer for the state you reside in to see that someone who is unlicensed is not a lawyer and there is no state where a lawyer is defined as a law school graduate.
Exactly. I’m a former corporate lawyer, now doing in-house tech transactions. I always turn away potential clients who need some basic corp formation and governance work done if it’s through a state I’m not barred in. I could probably do most of it given some of their basic transactional nature but I don’t want any issues.
@CyclonePower40@atrupar what “same one thing” are you talking about? We are discussing the fact she’s not at all a lawyer yet has claimed to have held roles reserved for lawyers only. what loophole are you looking for specifically?
Taking the bar exam was one of the hardest experiences in my education. It required a ton of work & legal understanding. Someone who failed it & still presents herself as a lawyer is not fit to be Press Secretary. It shows a complete lack of ethics, honesty, & merit.
@CyclonePower40@atrupar due to the fact she is not a lawyer and never has been, her position as “general counsel” of a California company and associate at a Chinese law firm are farces. Those two positions require you to be a lawyer, which she is not.
@rfmoldaner2@TesoroAruina@AvionDivan@AJDelgado13 Blogs are not more factual than state statutes. If you were a lawyer or a person who could read, you’d know that. And no, you are not within your rights to call yourself a lawyer just because you feel like it. Your ignorance is honestly laughable
well, yes, that’s the point you’re missing. She can’t “practice” law at all. All states do have recourse through the very laws they all have providing a definition of “lawyer” and who can call themselves one because it’s a licensed procession for LAW. Idk what you mean by the “law” has no recourse here but she *could* be prosecuted in whatever manner a jurisdiction pursues unauthorized practice of law claims. The Bar also has recourse by preventing her from future bar licensing, if she ever pursued that properly. so I repeat, she’s not a lawyer.
