I was shocked when I saw this. Now I’m just in tears.

My kids were in the Cadet program. These are kids. Teenagers. Some are as young as 12. And the people running these programs are volunteers.

They are not politicians. They are not soldiers. They are not responsible for whatever political fight is happening between governments. They are Canadian kids learning leadership, teamwork and service.

And yet here we are.

I felt rage when they demeaned our war dead Canadians who fought and died alongside Americans.

I felt rage when we learned about attempts at election interference and efforts to fuel division in Canada, including support for Alberta separatism and the fight over our natural resources.

I’ve been attacked by foreign bots, trolls and online both foreign and domestic influencers who seem perfectly willing to sell out their own country for attention, money or political ideology.

They have insulted our leaders.
They have threatened us.
They have tariffed us.
They have tried to economically crush us.
They have pushed lies about Canada to their own citizens.
They have treated our sovereignty like something they are entitled to dictate.

And now they’re coming after our kids.

Our kids.

Why is the United States Secretary of Defense spending his time attacking and amplifying attacks against a photograph of young Canadian cadets?

Why is this appropriate behaviour for the Secretary of Defense or any rational adult? These are teenagers.

What kind of adult government looks at Canadian teenagers and decides they are fair game for political attacks?

And to the right-wing who have joined in attacking these kids: I have nothing but contempt for you. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Our soldiers died fighting alongside Americans. Canadians and Americans stood together in wars and sacrificed together.

And now American officials are turning Canadian teenagers into political targets?

What the hell happened to basic morality?

Why is bullying Canadian teenagers apparently more important than dealing with the war he started and is clearly not winning, or all the other conflicts and war crimes they are committing, what about the American forces and interests abroad?

This administration has crossed a line that should never have been crossed.

Friends don't treat friends like this.

Allies don't treat allies like this.

You don't demean their war dead, threaten their sovereignty, interfere in their democracy, wage economic warfare against them, spread lies about them and then turn around and target their children.

And yes, I am angry.

I am f***ing furious.

Because I've watched this relationship deteriorate from one I once believed was built on friendship and mutual respect into something I barely recognize.

You came after our sovereignty.
You came after our economy.
You came after our democracy.
And now you're coming after our kids.

There are some lines you don't cross.

This is one of them.
