We are now 6 weeks into this crisis in the Middle East.

Some farmers are reporting up to 40% spikes in fertilizer prices.

The fertilizer monopoly gouged farmers after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and they’ll do it again now—unless you stop them.

There’s one key step you can take to protect independent farmers:

We urge your administration to review invoking the Defense Production Act and designate key fertilizer inputs as scarce or threatened resources.

Federal law does not broadly prohibit price gouging, but invoking the Defense Production Act would equip your administration with the tools it needs to deter such market manipulation.

The fertilizer pricing shock following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine led to a 60% rise in fertilizer prices in 2021, and prices averaged 132% higher in 2022 than 2020.

This time, you have the power to stop it.
