One of the coolest animals that devours cockroaches is the Emerald Jewel Wasp (Ampulex compressa), a metallic, neon-green insect that turns cockroaches into real-life zombies.

Instead of just killing the cockroach, the wasp actually performs a highly calculated, two-step brain surgery on it to feed its offspring:

* The 1st Sting: The wasp stings the cockroach in the chest to temporarily paralyze its front legs so that it can't run away.

* The "Zombie" Sting: The wasp then delivers a precisely targeted second sting directly into the cockroach’s brain, targeting the exact neural pathway that controls its escape reflex.

* The Mind Control: At this point the cockroach loses all free will and motivation to run, but its muscles still works perfectly fine. The wasp then bites off the roach’s antennae like straws to drink its hemolymph (bug blood), then leads the fully conscious, compliant cockroach by its remaining antenna back to the wasp's underground burrow - like a dog on a leash.

* The Nursery: The wasp then glues a single egg to the zombie cockroach's belly and seals the burrow. The roach just sits there patiently for days. When the egg hatches, the wasp larva eats the cockroach alive from the inside out, starting with non-vital organs to keep it fresh for as long as possible
