Having done business in many Third World countries, I've seen that they all are into scams and lying...business is about maximal extraction from your partners...how badly you can trick them. But they each have their own flavor and style that is unique to their culture. In Mexico, for instance, their basic scam style is *the bait and switch*. You negotiate on terms and just before you sign, they say, "Oh senior, some things have changed." Indian businesses play *tit for tat*, essentially game theory, until they see their opening and then they just go for maximal destruction. When negotiating with Indians, each time they give up something on one term, they demand more from other terms. It's whack-a-mole and it is so infuriating. They wear you down over time. The Chinese might actually be the worst. Chinese businessmen have definitely read The Art of War and adhere to its lessons. Their style is *keep your enemies close*. They essentially manufacture grand ruses, lies, to get you to trust them. They might invite you on an all expenses paid trip to China, put you up in first class hotels, take you to the Great Wall, fill your head with silver-tongued lies...but be sure, everything they say is untrue. Basically, what I've found is that only Americans and Western Europeans do business in a way that is supposed to be mutually supportive to both entities involved. Western-style business is the only type of business that lays foundations for the future instead of just extracting in the short term. The Japanese also do mutually beneficial business, but they are SLOW...insanely slow. Essentially, the character of a country is reflected in how they do business, how they negotiate. You can really see why Third World countries are they way they are. There is no trust. Everyone is trying to screw everyone else. Everyone is just the scorpion riding across the creek on the back of the frog. And YOU are the frog.
