A couple of months ago I gave a #TEDx talk titled As I Lay Dying. I discuss my experience as a medical student dealing with death, the humanity I wish to give all my patients, and the importance of listening. Here it is-

@MaxJordan_N This — I always describe IM as the foundation of a hospital. Our services absorb all and we pick up often where others services feel it’s not worth their time (like complex interdisciplinary dispo planning). And we rarely have the option to say no.
Finished my chief year and I’m no longer worrying about emails, sick-calls, clinic schedules, upcoming lectures and my mind feels like it has so much space, finally, for me.
Amazing how many things occupy our mind, and then we close a chapter of our lives, and it disappears.
During Jummah (Friday prayer) this afternoon, Columbia University students formed a human shield with blankets to provide privacy to those students participating in prayer after a video showing students praying on the lawn began circulating on social media

“Our traumas are awakening… we are remembering what we survived, so we tried to do something,” said Imam Hrustanović @E71HRG who survived Srebrenica genocide & who gathered signatures for a letter to ICJ. “It’s for them [Gaza], it’s not about us.”

In my 35 years of work in complex emergencies, I never have expected to write such a letter, predicting the killing of my staff & the collapse of the mandate I am expected to fulfill #Gaza
Chief year looking like referencing Kim Kardashian and Prenuvo in a talk I give to PGY1s on how to conduct wellness visits to prevent unnecessary testing.
Because when evidence says over testing leads to harm by the medical system, teach the right things to budding doctors✌🏼
We are shocked by the supreme court’s decision to strike down affirmative action in higher education and are concerned for the consequences this will have to the medical profession as a whole, where only 5% identify as Black/AA and 6% identify as Latinx.
“Grief also splits the atom of the capitalist individual,” […] “Loss exposes the illusion of autonomous selfhood; just as a factory is brought to a standstill by a strike, we are made aware of our dependence on others by their disappearance.” https://t.co/eHBkmhUZEY
