@LukeW Both are socially awkward 🙃 a ring is a symbol representing personal values or history, it would be risky to introduce a product coexisting in such company.
There are also a lot of social conventions to overcome before using AR while grocery shopping.
At home or office, less so.
@LukeW Perfect hand recognition looks like a key to a good AR experience. Selecting an object by holding and shaking it a couple times, or finger drawing around it, could work. A smart ring would be too awkward socially.
@ditheringfm regarding your discussion about compelling AR use cases, here are 4 candidates:
- 3D modelling
- Decision making
- Relation to digital docs
- Learning

Here are some AR use cases where I see potential:
- 3D modelling in actual 3D – instead of in a representation of a 3D environment on a 2D screen – would be more productive. VFX, animation, architecture, product design. And AR content, of course.

- Learning. Chemistry, physics, mathematics, geography, geology, economics, CS: is there a field where 3D representation of concepts would not make them easier to understand?

- Relation to digital docs. Instead of navigating a tree structure, having files organised in space will ease access and provide an overview of the whole. Think of your photo library displayed in the space of your living room. Imagine a Git repo in a room.
3/4
- Data representation and decision making. 2D Charts on a 27” screen will feel barbaric when we’ll have representation of facts displayed in full width on a desk, or occupying a whole room. Climate policy, urban planning, process monitoring. Connecting the dots, in space.

In 1950, Woodward Ave, the busiest corridor in Detroit had a streetcar frequency of 60 seconds during peak and 2.5 minutes throughout the day with 70k daily riders. 72 years later, the bus comes every 20 minutes. We need to fund bus operations in this country. (The Detroit News)
