Which causes them and their more radical members to escalate, which is interpreted as proof of the other sides' fears.

Existential us vs them can easily become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

One positive way to look at the Young Republicans revelations is that it appears that the Based Ritual is now becoming more low status on the right. It seems five years ago you would see this more often among Yale Law grads, now it's strivers in state politics.
