Your mission: buy nothing on Friday. Don’t fall prey to the spectacle. Relax. Go for a walk. Enjoy something free just make #BlackFriday into #BuyNothingDay.
Get ready for the consumerist kabuki show (aka #BlackFriday) that makes us feel like shit and kills the planet in the process.
Let’s call this nonsense done, and start inventing new ways to live, love and celebrate.
This Friday #BuyNothing
A chocolate manufacturer, R.M. Palmer Company, failed to evacuate a Pennsylvania factory after some employees reported smelling gas before an explosion leveled part of the plant in March, killing seven workers, a federal official said this week. https://t.co/H36TY7oSFL
Hey @sundarpichai, what do you have to hide?
We should be full of rage that #Google can block us from seeing the evidence in their antitrust trial.
How dare they.
The most anti-competitive corporation on earth gets a judge to censor their own trial and all we can do is shrug?
if aliens landed on the earth tomorrow, and you had to pick one person to represent humanity, it would be:
1. Elon Musk
2. Bill Gates
3. Jeff Bezos
4. Mark Zuckerberg
Among these, Peter Thiel, who buys seats in Congress for GQP finance bros, has said that freedom and democracy are incompatible. Freedom to do what, we wonder? Perhaps to impose his vision without democratic oversight.
Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and their billionaire counterparts appear to be more interested in replacing our current reality with “something far more opaque, concentrated, and unaccountable, which, if it comes to pass, they will control.” https://t.co/AZBFkT0kg8
Time for the world to be aware that the world’s richest egomaniac is supporting the far right party in Germany and actively opposing measures to save lives.
Elon Musk’s electric car company Tesla allowed racial harassment of its Black employees to run rampant at its Fremont, Calif., plant and retaliated against some workers who complained, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleged in a lawsuit. https://t.co/EVwpt4jShH
@megynkelly Yes, those 7 people on stage are beneath the dignity of a debate or indeed the presidency itself. Double for the mango menace too cowardly to show up and doesn’t appear to believe in democracy anyway.
@megynkelly What we’re actually up against is a twice-impeached ex president who said the constitution should be suspended, and attempted exactly that during his coup on 1/6.
@UAW Whether this was a policy of Twitter or not, it says a lot about how much trust the platform has lost under the current regime.
Stay strong, UAW! ✊
"(The Stand Up strike strategy) is one reason this is an epic moment in the history of American trade unions. And here’s another one: this strike enjoys an extraordinary level of support from the American people."
Correct: there’s no way you can continue wasting hundreds of millions of dollars on stock buybacks to manipulate prices, jack up CEO pay to ludicrous levels, all while starving the workers who actually make the product you sell.
THAT is what is unsustainable.
Pay your workers.
Your annual reminder that labor builds things, not capital. If you like paid holidays, a 40-hour work week, thank a union. If you want to see kids in schools, thank child labor laws and unions that fought for them. If you want to keep all of this, stand up and speak out!
In the USA it's Labor Day. Thanks to all the unions and labor rights organizations that have fought for the worker, stopped childhood labor, pushed for a living wage and gave people a fighting chance against greedy corporations.
