In US eventhough farm are big but when comes to earning farmer who have small land who use heirloom seed & organic farming earn better if I am not mistaken similar way in india few ppl including from IT doing successfully when we scale that community big (1)

I watched Annamalai's podcast where he spoke about improving farming techniques. While that's a worthwhile goal, the larger issue is that Indian agriculture continues to operate under a framework that often rewards inefficiency rather than productivity.

Many farmers still use methods that are decades behind what is common in countries like the Netherlands or Israel. As a result, yields and productivity remain far below their potential. Yet the sector continues to receive substantial subsidies, and agricultural income remains tax-exempt.

Meanwhile, a middle-class IT professional starts paying taxes from the very first paycheck. Money that could have gone toward savings, investments, or buying a home instead goes into the tax system. Ironically, some of those taxes end up subsidizing individuals who may own significant agricultural assets and whose income is exempt from taxation.

There is also the uncomfortable reality that agricultural income exemptions have sometimes been used to shield non-agricultural earnings. In some cases, revenue from side businesses, money-lending activities, or vehicle trading gets rolled into agricultural income and escapes taxation altogether.

The risk profiles are also very different. If an IT employee loses a job, there is often no safety net beyond personal savings. A farming family, on the other hand, still retains ownership of land - an appreciating asset that stays within the family across generations. Their children can pursue careers in IT, medicine, business, or government service while still having farmland as a fallback option.

Given all this, I would argue that agriculture should be opened up to greater competition and investment. Instead of endlessly discussing how to modernize traditional farmers, why not encourage educated professionals, entrepreneurs, and salaried employees to invest in farmland? Let them buy an acre at a time, form cooperatives, or pool capital to acquire larger holdings.

They can bring modern irrigation, precision agriculture, data-driven decision-making, mechanization, and better supply-chain management. In many cases, they could likely generate significantly higher output per acre than those who continue to resist modernization.

If we truly want a stronger agricultural sector, the answer isn't more protectionism. It's competition, innovation, and accountability. Every other sector of the economy is expected to evolve. Agriculture should not be the exception.
