DEAR PRIVATE SCHOOL OWNERS, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT TEACHERS' SALARIES

Parents pay ₦60k, ₦100k, even ₦150k per term.

Now multiply that by the number of pupils and classes in your school.

Yet many teachers who wake up early, stand all day, manage 20–30 children, prepare lessons, teach, correct books, handle children's emotions and responsibilities, still go home with ₦25k or ₦40k.

How is that fair?

Before fixing a teacher's salary at ₦50,000, ask yourself one simple question:

"Can I survive on this amount in today's Nigeria?"

Transport, rent, food, bills and family responsibilities are real.

Teaching, especially teaching toddlers and young children is not small work. It requires emotional, physical and mental labour.

Teachers shape lives

When teachers are constantly underpaid, undervalued and struggling to survive, the quality of education can suffer too.

A teacher who is worried about how to get home, what to eat or how to pay bills is carrying a burden beyond the classroom.

This is not an attack on school owners. It is a call for fairness.

If a school is doing well, let the people helping to make that success possible benefit from the growth too.

Growth should not be one-sided.
