@ell_my UCSF extends the non-medical parental leave benefit to all family care situations (spouse, parent, etc) and it’s so humane! What if it was possible for all of us to have support when we needed it??
@ell_my I hear people excusing it because so much of our society is focused on children, but… I don’t think that’s actually true??? Public spaces are becoming more and more hostile to kids and that seems very bad!!!
@ell_my Hating kids is akin to abilism imho. Everybody’s going to make their own decisions about their own ability to have them but the whole idea of “child free” as an identity (or even just harping on it a lot) is deeply off putting.
@ell_my Good memory care is a godsend (my dad was in a memory care home for ~5 years). People understandably agonize about it but it’s so hard to show up as your best self for someone when you’re doing all the care yourself! Hope your in-laws (and you lol) get some peace from this.
@ell_my Insisting on what you perceive to be the accurate version of reality will probably just cause more distress for everyone involved. Hard for some people to grasp!
Folks, in 1988 California voters made it illegal for insurance companies to charge premiums based on risk.
There is no one alive in California government who can fix this. We have to repeal Prop 103 — but fair warning:
Sprawl housing is not going to come out on top.
@with_club_sauce Also the sewing community swears by merino wool undies which probably makes sense for my climate but I’m skeptical about the rest of the country.
@with_club_sauce Personally I am forever miffed by the fact that I have underwear that I bought in high school that has held together better than anything purchased in the last eight years or so, wtf.
People talk about “secret menus” at fast food places, but I would never in a million years ever order a “secret menu” item because if the cashier looked at me and said “huh?” I would die on the spot
@AheadOfTheNerve Mostly due to my first point: generally the required info is just other support for key personnel and IRB/IACUC/other compliance info if applicable, but sometimes the GMS or PO will need different things and we’d end up having to resubmit a 2nd time if we don’t wait.
@AheadOfTheNerve Grant administrator here: you only send in what the PO/GMS ask for, which can vary a lot! Also, you will get an automatic JIT prompt above a certain score, but unless you’ve scored very high we recommend waiting until you get a personalized request.
@metaltxt Standing on a street corner informing the public that the government doesn’t need to pay off its debt in the same way you should pay your credit card balance in full every month, if possible.
