If Y represents the random variable giving the number of boys in a family, then this will be E[1/(1+Y)]. And, if I did the calculation correct (?), is equal to log(2).
@laurafeiveson@WWMGT Hi Laura! With N fixed as the number of families and B random as the number of boys born to those families before the first girl, it should be that P(B=0)>0. This guarantees that the expected ratio of number of girls to boys N/B has infinite expectation.
