@ohjawbone @cocteautriplets Agree. It’s actually painted the original colour; other than the black fascia/columns and gold finials. The new owners have also made significant repairs to the fabric of the building - so that it won’t fall into disrepair.

@AlanWilson_SP @lizbain @SecretEdin Perhaps more interesting is that it’s a single piece of hardwood without any joins - the visible marks are stains from water ingress - it’s a 60x600cm piece of planed hardwood! A big tree. Very rare.

@AlanWilson_SP @lizbain @SecretEdin I helped take down the glass. Client is keep the sign and I’m going to clean it, then varnish it and replace the current ‘Grog Shop’ next week :-)

@AlanWilson_SP @lizbain @SecretEdin There was thick opal glass over this painted sign, acid etched with ‘Laurence Smith & Son’ where the glass was thinner due to the etching UV has discoloured the paint, creating the ghost.

This is really sad. Appreciate it would be challenging to design a scheme that keeps this in place whilst advertising the new business - but to cut it up rather than preserve it is outrageous. I would have bought it from them!
