Factor XII drives thrombosis but is dispensable for hemostasis, making it an anticoagulant drug target. We show that factor XII–triggered coagulation traps pathogens and limits bacterial dissemination, highlighting a role of prothrombotic mechanisms in innate immunity.
We regret to share that Claire McLintock (@doctormclintock), passed away on December 23, 2022. Claire served the @ISTH in many positions, including as ISTH President from 2018-2020. She was a brilliant, bright light and will be greatly missed. Read more: https://t.co/WOXZSrmVCd

It is well known that factor XII has a critical role in thrombosis sparing hemostasis, however the protease has much broader importance. Thanks to Reiner Mailer and colleagues for providing an update on factor XII-driven vascular inflammatory reactions:

Mechanism of VITT
In a collaborative effort with Andreas Greinachersr team and many colleagues we have identified the mechanic basis that underlies Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT). The findings will improve patient safety. Enjoy!
