@ByronYork Trump pursued business deals with a nuclear-armed US rival, lied about it *during* the campaign and then attempted to cover it up afterwards. These are FACTS, Byron, no matter how hard you try to spin for this pathetic man.

@cubprospects@CubsCentral08@IvyFutures Is Michael Arias officially a VERY Bad Man? My God—that 2-seamer is giving me Dustin May vibes. I’m seriously getting chills watching this dude…
@tpatedJoe@joemurf9@Michael_Cerami valuing the short-, medium- and long-term chances of the Cubs to compete for championships. Assuming that he ever wanted to play here, would *I* rather have TT on his deal than Swanson at 7/$177? Yes. Am I *right?* Who the F knows? Am I rooting like hell for Dansby? Damn right.
@tpatedJoe@joemurf9@Michael_Cerami that the Cubs are looking at guys like PCA as long-term pieces as early as ‘24. Does having Swanson’s deal end in ‘29 make it easier to offer PCA an Albies-type deal in, say, ‘25? Maybe…and *that* has value, too. Again, I *like* having Dansby…it’s just a matter of properly…
@tpatedJoe@joemurf9@Michael_Cerami It’s all about probabilities. SD is 10-1 to win the 2023 WS. If you’re the owner, do you prefer 3-4 years with a 10% chance of a ring *each* year, or would you rather have, say, a 5% annual chance over 10 seasons? Everyone’s different, and Jed/TR obviously prefer scenario 2.
@lNTERNETWOMAN@vtech16272282@PitchingNinja In his Mets days, Seaver was acknowledged as one of the hardest throwers in baseball and hit 95 on guns that were 2-3 mph slower than today’s models. If he’d had access to today’s video and training methods, 100 wouldn’t have been out of the question
@tpatedJoe@joemurf9@Michael_Cerami (a) For teams at/over the CBT, every $ pushed out later *also* saves them from *present-day* overage taxes/penalties
(b) We don’t know what the CBT will be in 2030…or 2033. If it’s $275m, one bad contract is < 10% of that
(c) GMs *don’t care* about 2033. Neither should we
@joemurf9@tpatedJoe@Michael_Cerami There’s a great article on Fangraphs about the logic of contract lengths vis-a-vis vinterest rates:

@ColinCannell@SarahTaber_bww We have lots of this in our area (Central IL). You’ll see a 5-40 acre lot surrounded on 3 sides by tract housing/retail, and someone’s *still* planting corn to keep the land appraised as “Ag.”
@TheBlogfines@IvyFutures It looks like Jed’s trying to run the Giants’ 2021 playbook, where you mix & match a bunch of vets of (mostly) shorter deals instead of giving huge deals to 1-2 guys.
An Idaho woman who is miscarrying and been denied an abortion because of state law has been documenting herself getting sicker and sicker over the last two days
@DOM_Frederic 6 x $27 for *by far* the best under-35 pitcher in this goddamn market…and the Cubs didn’t even TRY to bid on him. Here’s a Game 1 playoff starter who can anchor your staff for years…but at least Jed gets to keep his previous “payroll flexibility.”
@realcubsinsider I want someone to ask this of TR:
When setting a payroll, do you give Jed a number/range (i.e., “I want us at $180-200m next year”), or do you just tell him what he *can* spend?
@cubprospects@obvious_shirts 6/23/84. 17 yrs old. Like morons, my buddy and I drove in from MI *without tickets* for a Sat Cubs-Cards game…and wound up in Row 2 of the upper deck for the Sandberg Game. It’s been almost 40 years and, outside of my daughter’s birth, it’s the purest joy I’ve ever experienced.
@DOM_Frederic Waaaaaaayyy too passive. I don’t want TR in the room when they talk to free agents, but I *do* want him to SET a payroll and then leave it to Jed to construct a team. “Here’s the surplus” is NOT the same as “I want the best team that $200m can buy.”
