First day of sabbatical. Driving with my kid to New Mexico. Charlie’s senior year at St John’s College, Santa Fe campus. Today’s goal? Shamrock, Texas.
Today is my last day of work before my sabbatical begins. I’m excited about my upcoming travels, but I know I’ll miss my community. I feel sadness and some anxiety as I prepare for this morning’s Eucharists.
Pastors and “religious exemptions,” a thread.
Several years ago I was approached by a family in our church. This is a family that no longer attends, but I still love very much and am in close contact with. They told me that their eldest child was about to start in a new school.
@timrwebb63 Yes. I tell the school that I disagreed with them, but it was a sincerely held belief. Let the school decide what to do with that information.
@preston_shipp @DavidDark@RNS What reorientation is God calling for from us pro-vax, pro-mask people? How do WE need to change in order to bring about reconciliation and a healthier nation? That's the question we should be asking, removing the logs in our own eyes.
@davidvassar I think it's a good way to love your neighbor, and I have often said so; but making new laws based on old laws is the way of the Pharisee.
I think that’s where we are now. For a Christian pastor to say that our faith excepts people from masks or vaccines is a violation of the Third Commandment. It’s a misuse of the Name of God. And, we might have people in our congregation who disagree.
