New research on #AcousticTelemetry, sharks & windfarms 🦈🌬️
Lesser spotted dogfish showed high site fidelity, returning after a few weeks of absence, suggesting that the habitat at this site is suitable for the species 🌊

Great turn out @RoyalWilliamYd for the FUTURES event where we got to talk to 100s of people about @aMER_MarineRes Lyme Bay MPA longterm monitoring work. So many people loving our marine videos! Thank you @Chl0eMarine and our @PlymUni student ambassadors! @Dr_Emma_Sheehan
Pollack is a recreationally important species, yet little is known about this fish.
Recreational anglers & charter skippers have been working with researchers to learn more through #PollackFISP.

Regenerative aquaculture and acoustic telemetry make a great pairing in this new study led by @Thomasstamp feat @AdamLikesTheSea. They used V9 transmitter tags on crustaceans to capture ecological benefits of offshore mussel farms. Bravo to the researchers! 🦞

Wow! Data on 15,000 pollack has now been collected by a consortium of 14 charter skippers in the southwest working in partnership with scientists on #PollackFISP Thank you to all the anglers, skippers and crew contributing to this work. Without you, it wouldn't be possible 🎣
Just finished entering data for 2024... this small net has now been towed for 🏆>100km 🏆by @PlymBioMarSci staff + @MBSPlymUni students @PlymUni @ beaches in SW England. Bravo net & all for 7yr effort: LT data on fish habitat use, & how / why fish populations vary is valuable.
Our @OffshoreShell research was on @BBCBreakfast this morning - lead author @ThomasStamp https://t.co/KSIgXXJRIR tracks crustaceans in offshore mussel farm to show fisheries and conservation benefits - watch from 6:24 am

Here we use a combination of approaches (#SDM#acoustictelemetry#SIA) to demonstrate that longline mussel farming can physically augment and improve seabed habitat to support commercially important crustacean populations in otherwise unsuitable habitat. 3/3

As a result of industrial fishing practices seabed habitats have fundamentally changed over prolonged time periods @OffshoreShell@PlymUni 1/3
Fun day promoting new paper - @ThomasStamp using historical ecology - 1871 French fishing map and acoustic telemetry to show regenerative effects of farm and value to commercially valuable lobsters 🦞 and crabs 🦀 interview on bbc Spotlight tonight 🦀 https://t.co/uWaebIri8w

A very successful first juvenile bass survey using a Fyke net with ~ 600 '0' group bass netted. Thanks to @IFMFish@Fin_Vision@PlymUni for training, workshop and advice in juvenile fish sampling techniques
Here is Chloe’s release video ❤️ This female catshark is now off to collect essential information on movement, habitat use and behaviour for the next two years
