Congratulations to our long-term partner, the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate, on being awarded the @UNESCO /Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize 2026.
This recognition honours the courage of Sudanese journalists who continue to defend truth and press freedom in extremely difficult and dangerous conditions.
At a time when Sudan’s conflict has made independent reporting more vital than ever, their work is a powerful reminder of why journalism matters.

Today, I awarded the 2026 UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize to the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate.
In the face of conflict, its members have shown extraordinary courage, continuing to report, to document attacks against journalists, and to support their colleagues, often at great personal risk.
Their work reminds us that freedom of expression is not abstract. It is an essential lifeline, providing access to information, to safety, and to connection.
Let us honour their resilience, their integrity, and their unwavering commitment to truth.

A chance for us to thank the leading academics, tech, business and media experts who took part in Thomson Talks at the Cambridge Disinformation Summit. Their experiences, knowledge and ideas provoked a rich, informative and engaging discussion around the central theme: ‘Effective responses to information manipulation: lessons from fragile contexts’.
Hosted in partnership with @CambridgeJBS and held under the Chatham House Rule, attendees heard examples of how disinformation online is leading to real-life violence in Sudan with insights into how lessons being learned might be employed globally. Full report to follow.
